David Reichard Williams (1890-1962) Photographs, negatives and archival records. Vernacular Texas Architecture 1916-1978

Manuscript material consists of photocopies of a portion of the David R. Williams Papers which are housed in the Southwestern Archives and Manuscripts Collection at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana. The negatives in this group are the originals which Williams made from 1926 to 1932. He donated them to the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, where the prints were made in the 1960s. Williams (1890-1962) is best-known as the leading proponent of the regionalist movement among Texas architects (1920-1939), incorporating elements of vernacular architecture and native materials in the houses he designed. Summary: Photographs and negatives (1926-1932) dominate this record group (1757 pieces), which also includes personal papers, correspondence, job files, drawings, visual materials and clippings (together measuring .83 linear feet).
